Jennifer Garner was born on April 17, 1972, at Houston, Texas but was raised in Charleston, West Virginia. William John Garner is her father. He was one of the chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann, her mother taught at a local college. In order to continue in the footsteps of her father, she graduated as a chemical engineer. To achieve her dream of becoming an actress, she moved to New York. She worked at a restaurant as well as appearing in Broadway productions. On the television series "Felicity," she had one brief appearance. (It was on this show that she got to know the man she married, Scott Foley. Garner was a star in the romantic comedy "13 going on thirty" where she played the role of a teenage girl trapped within a 30 year-old's body. Garner picked Gary Winick as the director of the film. They continued searching for roles until Winick's passing in the year 2011. Garner, who was designated as an artist ambassador by Save the Children U.S.A. for 2009, played an important role within the group. This includes the advancement of education, nutrition, and literacy as well as early childhood education. In 2014, Garner has been a member of the board of trustees for the organization. She has been pushing for early childhood education. In her role as an ambassador, Garner visits often with the families who are part of Early Steps to School Success which is a program designed to guide parents in how to assist the children in learning.
